what is delegation?
refers to the allocation of the task to someone else.

-improves motivation

-poor managers may over delegate
-staff feel that they are being over worked

what is accountability?
the ability to explain what’s happened and why. it’s not the same as responsibility
what is authority?
shown by the chain of command- this is determined by the structure

shown by the span of control, cannot be delegated
what is a communication path?
refers to how the information is shared with staff, the organisation structure can impact this.
what is empowerment?
refers to the granting of authority to make decisions
advantages of empowerment?
-increased motivation
-develops staff skills
-decisions can be made faster

-potential for mistakes
-must be done gradually
-may demotivate staff
