What is a recreational drug
A drug people use in their free time. These may be legal or illegal, for example alcohol and cigarettes (legal) or heroin and cocaine (illegal).
What is a performance enhancing drug (PED)
A banned substance used to improve performance. Athlete which use PEDs are cheating.
How are drugs tested in sport - UKAD

Reasons why athletes use PEDs
Pressure to succeed as an individual Train harder and longer Preferred body image Other people taking them Sponsorship Pressure to succeed as a nation Fame and money

Against morals and values of sport Long term I’ll health Consequences when guilty - fine, prison, ban, disgrace to nation U fair advantage Cheating
What is the “whereabouts” rule
It is where top athletes are responsible for informing their sports governing body of where they will be at all times when out of season.
Examples of people who used PEDs.
Justin Gatlin - sprinter who beat Bolt in 100m in 2017. Banned twice for using PEDs in his career.
Lance Armstrong - cyclist who won 7 Tour de France but were stripped away from him. Found guilty for taking a number of PEDs.
