health and safety at work act 1974
- esablishes the key duties and responsibilites for employees and employers in the work place
- HSE is the regulator for health, safety and welfare of people in settings in the uk
- is the basis of all other health and safety regulations and guidelines
manual handling operations Regulations 1992 - MHOR
- avoid hazardous manual handling
- eliminate or reduce risks associated with manual handling tasks
- employers must provide training, information and supervision about safe moving and handling
data Protection act 1998- DPA
- protects the security of personal information held on paper or electronic format
- information provided on clients must be accurate and up to date
- information must be secured
Food safety act 1990 - FSA
- good hygeine when working with food
- records are kept of where food is from so it can be traced
- unsafe food is removed and incident reported
- environmental health inspectors can inspect and if unfit establishments can be closed

- hazards are identified in food
*food areas must be clean
*good personal hygeine must be maintained
*foods are cooked through thoughly
*foods are stored at correct temp
*cross contamination is prevented - differen t coloured chopping boards for different food items
Reporting injuries, disease and dangerous occurrences regulations 2013 - RIDDOR
*employers must report and keep records for three years of work related accidents that causse death, serious injuries , diseases and dangerous occurrences
- procedures must be in place for reporting all three
- employers must provide information and training on reporting injuries , diseases and incidents

*employers must carry out and implement risk assessments of health, safety and security for their employees and others
*work settings must have arrangements in place and appoint competent people to manage health and safety and security
- employers must provide information, training and supervision so that work activities can be carried out safely
