- It involves treating someone unfairly compared to others due to their differences

What does the term ‘Prejudice’ mean?
A
- A negative attitude or dislike of an individual often based on the basis of discrimination e.g. Race, Age

What does the term ‘Stereotyping’ mean?
A
- Generalisations which are often offensive or exaggerated are made about a particular group of people e.g. older people, homeless people

What does the term ‘Labelling’ mean?
A
- A negative approach that identifies people as members of a particular group

What does the term ‘bullying’ mean?
A
- Involves threatening, humiliating others
- it is often repeated behaviour to either cause psychological or physical harm

What is direct and indirect discrimination?
A
- Direct discrimination: Intentionally putting someone at a disadvantage or texting unfairly due to an individuals differences
- Indirect discrimination: Unintentionally putting someone at a disadvantage

What individuals are affected by discriminatory practice?
A
- Individuals who require care and support e.g. patients, people with disabilities
- Family, friends and relatives of individuals who require care and support
- Practitioners e.g. nurses, GP

What are the impacts of discriminatory practice on individuals?
A
- Disempowerment: where an individual feels unwanted and disengages with life
- Low self-esteem: individual may feel worthless and may have their self-confidence destroyed
- Poor health and wellbeing: Individuals health may deteriorate
- Unfair treatment: individuals may not receive the care that they are entitled to
- Effects on mental health: Depression, self-harming, developing an eating disorder, behaviour changes
