1.1Physical abuse
Causing physical harm to a child or an adult
May involve: hitting, shaking, throwing, slapping, pushing, restraints etc.
1.1Sexual abuse
Child- forcing or enticing a child or young person to take part in sexual activities (physical contact, kissing etc)
Adult- rape, sexual; assault or sexual acts
1.2Emotional/psychological abuse
Child- persistent emotional maltreatment of a child as such to cause severe and persistent adverse effects on a child’s emotional development
Adult- “ - threats of harm or abandonment, deprivation of contact, humiliation, blaming etc.

Neglect
Child- persistent failure to meet a child’s basic needs likely to result in the serious impairment of the child’s health or development. (Inadequate food, clothing, shelter etc)
Adult- “ ignoring medical or physical care needs etc.
1.1 financial abuse
Form of abuse that includes theft, fraud, exploitation, coercion in relations to an adults financial affairs or arrangements including property, wills, inheritance or financial transactions
1.1 Institutional abuse
Form of abuse that can include neglect and poor care practice within an institution or specific care setting like a hospital or care home
1.1 Bullying
Usually defined as behaviour that is repeated, intended to hurt someone and often aimed at certain groups e.g. race, sex, gender etc.
1.1 Discrimination
Something that underlies many forms of abuse and includes treating a person less favourably on, for example, grounds of race, gender and gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, religion etc.
1.1 Exploitation/ mate crime
Involves unfairly manipulating someone for profit or personal gain, often when the abuser pretends to be their friend.

Unexplainable injuries that are the shape of objects, finger marks, bruises, black eyes, fractures, breaks, cuts, scars, scratches, bite or slap marks, burns, weight loss

Individual becoming anxious or fearful in particular in the presence of the abuser, less confident, withdrawn, deterioration in health, reluctance to undress in front of others

Bruises, scratches, soreness, or bleeding around genital and rectal areas, incontinence, pregnancy, blood on clothing, unexplained stomach pain and cramps

Individuals becoming withdrawn, anxious, frustrated, aggressive, displaying inappropriate uninhibited sexual behaviour, reluctance to undress
Emotional/ psychological abuse signs
The individual avoiding making eye contact, being fearful and anxious, incontinence, self harming, the individual telling you that they are not worthy and not able.
Emotional/ psychological abuse symptoms
Individual display change of eating and sleeping, low self esteem, becoming withdrawn from people and situations, having mood swings, anxious, fearful, frustrated, aggressive
