What does confidentiality mean?
Restricting access to authorised people only
What does integrity mean?
Assuring the accuracy and trustworthiness of data
What does availability mean?
Assuring the data will be available as and when required
What does unauthorised access mean?
Gaining access to a computer system without permission
What is hacking?
Illegally using a computer to access information stored on another computer system or spread a virus
What is escalation of privileges?
Obtaining the rights to access and edit information that normal users do not have
What is vertical escalation of privileges?
Finding flaws in the security system to increase their level of access, for example trying to access the system as a teacher when you are a student
What is horizontal escalation of data?
Gaining access to other users’ areas by stealing their username and password, or due to a program fault that provides a view of data belonging to others
What is information disclosure?
Information passed to a person, organisation or state without permission of the owner
What is the modification of data?
Data that is entered, amended, stored or deleted without authorisation
What is Inaccessible data?
Data that is not available to authorised users. It can be due to Account lockout or Denial of service (DoS)
What does destruction of data mean?
Permanent deletion of data through either Malware or Deliberate erasure
What is theft?
Stealing computer-based information from an unknown victim with the intent of compromising privacy or obtaining confidential information
