What is an example of an environmental hazard?
Damaged flooring can cause bruising and fractures
Using damaged equipment
What is an example of a biological hazard?
Poor levels of hygiene can cause the spread of infection and diseases
Waste products not being disposed of
What is an example of a chemical hazard?
Cleaning materials being stored or used incorrectly can cause serious physical harm
Incorrect doses of medications
What is an example of a psychological hazard?
Working long hours can lead to fatigue and stress
Coping with abuse from service users
What is an example of a physical hazard?
Poor ventilation can lead to the spread of airborne diseases
Excessive loud noise can cause deafness or ear ringing

Manual handling (patients) can cause muscle injuries if correct procedures aren’t followed

Temperature- Work environment being too hot can cause dehydration
Hearing can be damaged due to exposure to loud noises

Lack of supervision of new staff increases the chance of accidents
Excessive hours can lead to accidents and mistakes

Alarm systems and locks to prevent unauthorized access who could be a threat
Security may not be in place due to poor maintenance
