What is an environmental hazard?
-Can cause slip/trip hazards
What is a biological hazard?
-Can cause the spread of infection and disease
What is a chemical hazard?
-Medicines and cleaning materials.
e.g. incorrectly stored, used, wrong dose administrated
What is a phycological hazard?
-Stress and fatigue
e.g long working hours, violence, challenging behaviour
What is a physical hazard?
-Excessive loud noise at work e.g loud machines causing deafness
-Radiation damage from X-rays
What is an musculoskeletal hazard?
- Manual handling not carried out properly following procedures. e.g back injury
-DSE e.g incorrect posture causing muscular aches and pains
What is a working conditions hazard?
- Temperature (to hot/cold), noise levels too high, travel (long distances/tiredness)
What is a working practice hazard?
Excessive working hours, causing tiredness and lack of concentration (effectiveness affected)
-Lack of supervision for new staff e.g. training to avoid injury
What is a lack of security system hazard?
Faulty locks, alarm systems can cause danger to individuals.
Intruders can cause a threat if they are not monitored entering the building.
What are the 4 potential impacts of hazards for individuals, employees and employers?
- Injury/harm
- Illness
- Poor standards of care
- Financial Loss
Give three examples of injury/harm.
- Chemical burns
- Deafness
- Fractures
Give three examples of illness.
- Food poisoning
- Mental health
- Infections

- Employees who feel tired/exhausted

- Employees who lack concentration
