LO 7 Cardiac Flashcards
Where is the heart located?
Located in the mediastinum
Lateral to the lungs, posterior by vertebral
Beneath the second rib
The 3 layers of pericardium
Visceral pericardium (epicardium), Fibrous, and parietal
Talk about the fibrous portion
It is dense irregular CT, anchors the heart, prevents overfilling, surrounds the parietal and visceral layer
Talk about Parietal pericardium
Simple squamous epithelial and areolar CT ->inner lining of fibrous pericardium
Talk about visceral pericardium
Also called the epicardium, inner most layer also simple squamous epithelial and areolar CT.
Talk about the pericardial cavity
Between visceral and parietal pericardium with serous fluid
What are auricles
Attached to the outer surface of the heart where the atriums are. Wrinkled like structures, purpose is to increase the capacity of the atrium.
Coronary culcus
Deep groove that divides atria and ventricles, contains right coronary artery
Describe Anterior & posterior interventricle sulci
Shallow depressions separating L & R ventricles
Layers of the heart, describe Epicardium
Outer most layer, serous membrane -simple squamous and areolar CT. Produces serous fluid, may contain adipose along pathways of coronary arteries.
Layers of the heart, describe myocardium
Middle layer of the heart made up of concentric layer of cardiac muscles. This muscle pumps the blood.
Layers of the heart, describe endocardium
Innermost layers of simple squamous and areolar CT, lines the chambers and continues into the blood vessels as endothelial. Holds the blood within.
R side of heart is? L side is?
Deoxygenated, oxygenated
How does the R atrium gain blood from¿
The SVC, IVC and coronary sinus
Describe contents w/i the atrium
Pectinate muscled which are the prominent muscular ridges on the inside walls and surface of the R auricle.
Describe the R ventricle and contents
Pumps blood to the pulmonary trunk. Trabecular cornea which are muscular ridges on the inside. Moderator band which extends from the interventricle septum to the anterior papillary muscles. Contains portions of the conductive system that ensures contraction of the papillary muscle. Corneas arterious: superior end which ends at pulmonary valve and joins the trunk.
L atrium describe
L & R pulmonary veins bring oxygenated blood from lungs.
L ventricle
Has the thickest walls with no moderator band. Pumps blood to aorta then throughout the body.
