LMBC Flashcards
hat is normal leg extension whith the hip flexed?
Should be able to extend up to 160 degrees from 90.
What is the normal amount of hip rotation in an adult when sitting upright
45 internal 45 external
How is normal hip femur position calculated?
Externally rotate the hip maximally.
Internally rotate the hip maximally.
Add the two and divide by 2.
Subtract from external rotation. Should be in a 1:1 relationship.
Which ligament is generally tight with hip flexion and will promote external hip rotation?
The ischiofemoral.
If there is a detectable rotational deformity but there is no change in the BFP with hip flexed and hip extended what should you think of?
Should begin to think of a bony deformation.
What is the normal ammount of sagital plane hip flexion?
120-130 degrees.
What is the normal ammount of saggittal plane hip extension?
0-20 degrees.
What is normal hip abduction in the frontal plane?
40-45 degrees
What is normal hip adduction in the frontal plane?
20-25 degrees
What is normal knee extension when sitting?
0-15 degrees
What is normal knee flexion when sitting?
135 degrees
If the knees are separated more than 2 inches in comparison to the ankles what is occuring?
Genu varum
If the ankles are separated more than 2 inches from eachother in comparison to the knees what is occuring?
Genu valgum
When evaluating standing limb length what must be done?
Patient should be placed in both RCSP and NCSP
What is it called if tehre is a discrepency between standing RCSP and NCSP in limb length?
If it improves in NCSP then it is termed functional.
If it exists in RCSP and NCSP can be a structural limb length difference.
What is considered a normal ammount of ankle dorsiflexion?
10 degrees
What is considered a normal ammount of ankle plantar flexion?
50 degrees
What is the normal malleolar position for adults?
18-23
What is the normal tibial stance measurements?
0-7 degrees varus.
Remember make sure that the STJ is in neutral!
What is a normal ammount of STJ eversion?
10 degrees valgus
What is the normal ammount of STJ inversion?
20 degrees varum
How can you calculate neutral STJ position?
Can be calculated by adding eversion and inversion and then dividing by 3.
Subtract the value from the eversion and extrapolate excess varum or valgum.
What is the Kirby method testing for and what is normal?
It is testing for STJ deviation
Normal projects from the medial aspect of the calcaneus to the first intermetatarsal space.
What is the normal measurement of RCSP?
Between 2 degrees valgus and 2 degrees varus.
What is normal first ray range of motion at the MTJ?
5mm dorsiflexion and 5 mm plantarflexion.
What is normal first MPJ dorsiflexion?
60-65 degrees
What is normal first MPJ plantarflexion?
5-10 degrees.
