- to do no harm both intentional and unintentional

- a civil wrongful act or omission that causes harm

- a form of defamation of character that involves written untrue statements that lead to damage to reputation

- intentional physical harm between patient and medical personnel
- can be a nurse physically abusing a patient or a patient physically abusing a nurse
what is negligence?
- a general term indicating care is lacking performance within the standards of care
what is fidelity?
- to be faithful in your actions and cares, maintain loyalty and support
what are the 5+5 rights for medication administration?
- RIGHT: medication, dose, route, patient, time
AND - RIGHT: assessment, education, to refuse, evaluation, documentation

what is slander?
a form of character defamation that involves spoken damaging statements
what is informed consent?
in order for nurse to sign as a witness, 3 things need to be verified:
1) the patient is not being coerced
2) the patient is of sound mind
3) the patient is who they say they are/ correct person is signing
what are the rights of delegation?
prior to assigning an item, a nurse must consider the following:
- task

- person
- direction
- supervision
