Initial care provided to ill or injured person, until trained personnel can provide advanced care.

Stabalise the individuals condition and preventing any further harm
What does ARC stand for
Australian Resuscitation Council
What does the ARC do
- publishes first aid guidlines
- recommends first aid technique modifications
- practice and teaching of resuscitation

How to prevent the need for First Aid
- conduct routine hazard inspections
- participate in WHS meetings
- conduct risk assessmet & create action plans
- test emergency equipment and perform equipment maintenance
- participate in emergency drills
how to minimize risk when providing First Aid
- determine cause of injury and eliminate hazard
- move casualty (where possible) from potential danger
- use bystanders to ensure safety of the area

- mouth
- saliva
- exhaled air

how to reduce the risk of infection
- wash hands
- wear safety protection (gloves, goggles)
- use CPR mask
- use casualty’s hand
- use improvised equipment (t-shirt)
- avoid contact with bodily fluids
- use sterile equipment
