Lloyd Davies Flashcards
Hazards of lloyd davies
- Calf compression is inevitable. Patient is at risk for DVT and compartment syndrome. Need to lower legs for 5-10 mins if patient in position for >30misn
- Risk of crushed fingers if resting arms by patient side when end section of table is replaced
- ET tube may move on sliding patient down table
Lithotomy post op complaints
Painful hips ( lack of mobility, arthritic bones due to age)
Painful ankles
painful sacrolumbar regions
What is compartment syndrome
Calf compression causes venous and tissue pressures to rise. Arterial inflow blocked leading to ishaemia and acid metabolic by product increase causing disruption of cell membranes. All these issues can in a closed compartment leat to compartment syndrome which may cause permanent neuromuscular damage
Rule of 2 compression devices so remove compression stocking when in Lloyd Davies
Hazards of Positioning
- Circulatory
Difference between Lloyd Davies and Lithotomy
Degree of hips and knees flexion is less
Different foot and leg stirrups
