A

Leadership- he stopped the army fleeing by blocking bridge and begging them to stay. He was ‘Romes defence in her hour of need’. Told the army what to do.
Good fighter- held off enemy’s (with two people for a while)
Patriotic- risked his life for his country, and so he can be seen as heroic
Pious- prayed and swam back to Rome via the river Tiber
Respected- a statue put up of him, was given land and food during a food shortage.

A

Patriotic- wants to do a bold gesture to raise Rome’s prestige and morale.
Sensible- got Consul’s permission before making expedition so it didn’t seem like he was deserting the camp.
Brave- makes solo expedition to Etruscan camp & Burns his left hand and so called Scaevola.
Quick thinking- has to guess who to stab, although he does get it wrong.
Clever/Deceptive- lies to Porsenna that there are many more Romans coming to kill him so he becomes scared

Deceitful: tells consuls that there will be fights and arguments so he didn’t want to attend the games

A

Humble/Just - Used to be a consul but is now working on small farm, does not want to run for a second time
Hard working - Worked as a plougher on the farm (under 3 acres)
Patriotic - Worried for future of Rome when approached, changes into toga from dirty work clothes
Straight forward - Before dawn enters forum and chooses best soldier to be poor nobleman
Decisive/Good Organiser - Orders shops to be shut and 5 days’ supplies to be brought
Good military leader/Tactician - Takes army to Mt Algidus, rides alone to see enemy camp, tells army to leave bags and surround Aequi before battle cry
Merciful - Spares some Aequi lives (under yoke to show surrender)
Generous - Gives enemy property to his men
Abuse of power/Family loyalty - Holds onto his dictatorship, gives false evidence against Volscius in a trial in favour for his sons, Volscius is found guilty and exiled
Not power hungry - Resigns 15 days later

A

Military leadership - led Romans to capture Veii after 50 year campaigns.
Honest - rejects offer from school teacher.
Just - School teacher stripped, gave boys sticks to thrash teacher.
Honourable - gives representative from Falerii permission to go to Roman senate.
Pious- prays before leaving Rome
Angry- prays that Rome will pay if he’s innocent
Patriotic- more depressed about Rome’s situation than his own
Persuasive- bursts into council meeting, offers to lead a night attack
Good war leader- attack on Gauls succeed
Clever- uses the uneven broken ground for an advantage over the Gauls

Marcus Manlius - bravery, quick thinking because he woke up and beat the Gauls, pushing them down the hill
