Q

Summarise the events leading up to Hitlers suicide and the nazis surrender

A

In 1944, Germany was very desperate. Paris was liberated, the Nazis began to fall. The war effort was increased, putting more soldiers on the factories and many more such as closed theatres and more propaganda. The Volkssturm was the German troops aged 16 to 60 who weren’t in military service yet to defend Germany against advancing Russian and Allied troops.

In 1945, the British and American and Soviets made rapid progress. On the 30th April 1945, Hitler took his own life, knowing the end was near. The infrastructure of the company began to fall apart and there were severe food shortages. The bombings were particularly bad in the last year of the war. The Third Reich had shrunk to Berlin alone and they finally surrendered on 2nd May.
