babies are usually baptised but adults are able to the baptised as well
what happens in a baptism
- water and special oils are used on the babies head
- a candle is lit to show the light of Christ in the child’s life
- the baby’s parents choose god parents who promise to look after the child forever
-special promises are made on behalf of the baby
what is the Eucharist or holy communion
the ceremony commemorating the last supper involving bread and wine
what happens in the Eucharist or holy communion
- smart clothes - girls wear white dresses, boys wear suits
- children are allowed to have bread and wine in church for the first time
- Christians believe that the bread and wine turn into the body and blood of Jesus
- by taking part Christians are doing as Jesus asked them to at the last supper
what is confirmation
simular to baptism were a person makes promises and this time the person chooses to make promises themselves.
what happens in confirmation
- the person making their confirmation chooses someone to stand for them
- the archbishop come to the ceremony
what is reconciliation or confession
it is the sacrament of forgiveness
What do Christians do during the sacrament of reconciliation?
They say that they are sorry for the bad things that they have done by confessing their sins.
This sacrament is often referred to as confession or reconciliation.
What must a person do to prove they are truly sorry for their sins?
They have to say a penance and try not to sin again.
Penance may involve specific actions or prayers as a form of repentance.
What does God promise regarding forgiveness?
God says that he will forgive us for anything bad that we do as long as we are sorry for it.
This reflects the Christian belief in God’s mercy and willingness to forgive.
what happens in the sacrament of marriage
- the couple is joined together and our blessed by God
- the bride wears a white dress and the man wears a suit
what is the sacrament of holy orders
the sacrament of holy orders means becoming a deacon,priest or bishop
what happens in the sacrament of holy orders?
the person promises their whole lives to God
