Huge port that had experienced industrial decline
In the 80s there was economic and social deprivation (high unemployment rates)
1981 - race riots
Rebranding - Albert dock
Reimaged the city’s industrial heritage through culture
Merseyside development corporation reclaimed 4km of derelict land creating new houses ans providing 1000s of jobs
External of warehouses were untouched but interior was renovated
6 million tourists a year
Capital of cultures
European capital of culture in 2008
In 2008 alone - 7000 cultural events and £800 million additional income
Liverpool one - shopping centre

Project started at the end of 90s
Retail led development - 160 shops
Leisure and dining

For many years was an unattractive place
In 90s was developed into liverpools nightlife and creative industry
Also a popular place for city centre living.
