What is a fatty liver?
Can be a syndrome of liver damage. It is the collection or build up of fatty/lipped deposits in the cells of the liver (causing more attenuation).
Clinical indications of Fatty Liver?
Asymptomatic but may…
~Nausea & vomiting ~Mild Jaundice
~RUQ Pain
Scanning considerations of Fatty Liver?
High attenuation (fussy with depth)
Hyperechoic to kidney
Focal fatty infiltrate: (Islands of hyperechoic/fatty tissue in a sea of normal liver tissue)
focal fatty sparing: (islands of hypoechoic/normal tissue in a sea of hyperechoic/fatty liver)
Low viability of portal vein walls
Scanning considerations of fatty liver?
Compare liver echogenisity with the cortex of kidney
What is Acute Hepatitis?
Is the inflammation of the liver due to a virus.
