Biliary disorders

A

Cholestasis
Cholestasis is the slowing or stalling of bile flow through your biliary system.
TREATMENT
- Colestyramine - Absorbed excess bile to be digested.
- Ursodeoxycholic acid
- Rifampicin
ALT: Sertraline, Naltrexone
Pregnancy - Ursodeoxycholic 1st

Gallstones
Gallstones (cholelithiases) occur when hard mineral or fatty deposits form in the gallbladder.
Mostly asymptomatic. Common symptoms - pain, infection and inflammation.
TREATMENT
- Asymptomatic dont need treatment
- Surgery ca be used for symptomatic
- Analgesia for pain. Severe pain IM diclofenac ALT IM opioid.

Inborn errors of primary bile acid synthesis
Group of diseases in which the liver does not produce enough primary bile acids due to enzyme deficiencies.
TREATMENT:
- Cholic acid, Chenodeoxycholic, Ursodeoxycholic

Primary biliary cholangitis
Cholangitis same as Cirrhosis.
Is a Chronic cholestatic disease which develops due to progressive destruction of small and intermediate bile ducts within the liver
TREATMENT:
Ursodeoxycholic acid
