Persona
Mask or voice assumed by a writer
1st person narrator
One of the characters is telling the story, uses the pronoun ‘I’
Unreliable narrator
Narrator who only tells part of the story, or leaves some parts out
3rd person limited point of view
The narrator, who plays no part in the story, zooms in on thoughts and feelings of just one character
Mood
A story’s atmosphere or feeling it evokes
Theme
Central idea of a work of literature
Voice
Writer or speaker distinctive use if language in a text
Diction
A writer’s or speaker’s choice of words
Tone
Attitude a writer takes toward a subject, character, or the audience
Irony
Contrast between expectation and reality- between what is said and what is really done
Foreshadow
It the use of clues to hint at events that will occur later in a plot
Conflict
Struggle or clash between opposing characters or opposing forces
