Metaphor
Compares 2 things without like/as; ex. life is a brief candle
Metonymy
Something closely associated with an entity is substituted for it; ex. the Crown issued an official statement (the Crown = the royal family)
Synecdoche
A part of an entity is substituted for it; ex. look at my new wheels (wheels = car)
Narrator
The storyteller
Paradox
A statement that seems to be contradictory but holds real meaning
Parody
A funny imitation of another (usually serious) text/work
Personification
Representing objects, ideas, etc. as human beings by giving them human-like qualities
Simile
Compares 2 things using like/as/etc
Stream of consciousness
A narrative technique that suggests thought flow/takes you into the narrator’s mind
Symbol
An object/entity/etc. that represents something beyond its literal meaning
Syntax
Ordering words into meaningful verbal patterns (sentences/phrases/clauses/etc)
