Author’s purpose
The author purpose will most likely fall into one of the following categories:entertainment,persuasion,information,or expression of an opinion.
Biography
A written account of another person’s life written by someone else.
Conflict
1.Central conflict-struggle between opposing forces.
Connecting
1.The idea of the relating the content of the story to your own knowledge or experience.
Flashback
1.A scene from an earlier time that interrupts the ongoing action of a story.
Foreshadowing
1.To show or indicate beforehand,to give a glimpse of what may happen in the future.
Imagery
1.Descriptions words or phrases that appeal to the reader’s five senses.Effective imagery creates sensory experience for the reader.
Inference
1.When readers draw a logical conclusion about something in a story and base it on information in the story and their own experience,they are making an inference.
Main idea
The most important point in paragraph or story.It is usually stated in the topic sentence or theists.It has supporting details that relate to the main idea.
Plot
A plot made up of events that can be divided into rising action,climax and falling action.The rising action develops as the main character encounters conflict. Rising action leads to the climax,or turning point of the story,which
Purpose
The season the author has written the work;his motivation.
Setting
The setting of a story,poem or play is the time,location,and cultural customs in which the action occurs.The sitting could be a backdrop ,with no effect on what happens,or it may be important to the action in the story.Clues about time,place and culture are often scattered throughout a story.It can include details about geographic location,history time,season of the year,time of day or customs of a group of people.It could also reflect a spiritual or moral atmosphere.
Antagonist and Protagonist
The protagonist is the main character or hero of a story.The writer usually wants the reader to like and support the character.The antagonist is the protagonist’s opponent.The antagonist is a character but can sometimes be a force of nature or an obstacle.The reader often disliked an antagonist.
