What is characterization?
The method in which the author develops a character. This includes the character thoughts, words, and action, and what the narrator and the other character say about him/her or it
What is a protagonist?
The central character or hero
What is a antagonist
A person or force that oppose protagonist
What is the setting in a story?
The time and place in which a story takes place
What is the plot of a story?
The structure of a story or events that make the story
What is the exposition in a story?
Basic background information revealed
What is the rising action?
When conflict starts to develop
What is the climax?
The turning point of the story
What is the falling action?
Events that occur after the climax
What is the resolution?
When the conflicts is solved
What is the theme?
The main moral or the message of a piece of literature, what we learn about life from reading
What is conflict?
The problem in the story
What is internal conflict?
(personal conflict) man vs self
What is external conflict?
a problem that a character forces with an outside force
What is point of view?
The perspective from which a story is told
What is first person view?
The narrator is a part of the story and uses personal pronouns
What is third person view?
The narrator is an outside voice that is not apart of the story
What is third person omniscient?
The narrator is the outside voice that is all-knowing and can tell a character thoughts and feeling
What is irony?
Something unexpected
What is situational irony?
When something other than the what is suppose to happens happens
What is dramatic irony?
When the reader or audience knows more about a situation than a character
What is verbal irony?
When a person says or writes something, but means something else
What is symbolism?
When an object stands for something great that itself (it also has other meanings)
