Allegory
A narrative that serves as an extended metaphor
Alliteration
A repetition of the initial sounds of several words in a group
Allusion
A brief reference to a person/event/place, real or fictitious
Antagonist
A person or force which opposes the protagonist
Antithesis
The rhetorical contrast of ideas by means of parallel arrangements of words, clauses, or sentences
Assonance
The repetition of vowel sounds
Atmosphere
The mood that is established through the setting and foreshadowing
Bias
A prejudice in a general or specific sense
Blank verse
A poem written in unrhymed iambic pentameter
Characterization
The method a writer uses to reveal the personality of a character in a literary work
Climax
The decisive moment in a story, the turning point to which the rising action leads

Informal words/expressions usually only used between friends

Assessing the similarities between two or more ideas/object/people

This occurs when the protagonist is opposed by some person or force
