rhyme
repetition of two or more nearby words of the last stressed vowel and all the syllables that follow it
Sonnet
"Little song" a poem of fourteen lines using any of a number of formal rhyme schemes, in English typically having ten syllables per line A B A B C D C D E F E F G G
meter
reccuring pattern of sounds that give poems their distinctive rhythms
iambic pentameter
(type of meter Shakespeare uses) a line of a verse with five metrical feet, each consisting of one short (or unstressed) syllable followed by one long (or stressed) syllable ex.

An extended metaphor (often carried through an entire stanza or an entire poem)
scansion
the act of scanning a line of verse to determine its rhythm
couplet
two lines of a verse, usually in the same meter and joined by a rhyme, that form a unit
