Character in a story that works against the main character in some way
Antagonist
Story poem or picture that can be interpreted or reveal a hidden meaning. Typically moral
Allegory
Specific point when expectations are raised but a sudded twist or disappointment happens
Anticlimax
Story of a persons life written by someone other than the subject of the work
Biogrpahh
Fictional story that is shorter than a novel. Usually focus on one plot and main character
Short story
Figure of speech that makes a comparison showing similarities between two different things. Draws resemblance with like or as
Simile
Figure of speech where an inanimate object or animal is given human like qualifies
Personification
Exaggerationz to create emphasis or effect
Hyperbole
When a writer makes direct statements about a characters personality and tells what the character is like
Direct characterization
Writer indirectly reveals info about a characters personality through their thoughts words or actions or how others think or feel towards them
Indirect characterization
Any struggle between opposing forces usually the main character struggles against some other force
Conflict
A text that xplakns the features of something. Uses language to help readers I their minds about the thing or person being described
Description
Struggle betwen ligament or dramatic character and an outside force which drives dramatic action to the plot
External conflict
Struggle that takes place in the protagonists mind and through which a character reaches a new understating or dynamic change
Internal conflict
Language used by people of a specific area class district or ant other group of people. Elaborates geographic and social background of any character
Dialect
Conversation betwen two or more people as a feature of a book play or movie
Dialogue
Complete features and traits that from the idividual nature or someone or something
Character
Complex and undergo development sometimes to surprise the reader. Character in fiction whose psonality background and other features are fully defined by the author
Round character
Easily recognized character type in fiction who may or may not be fully portrayed but is useful in carrying out some narrative purpose of the author
Flat character
Process by which the writer reveals the personality of the chaRacter through direct or indirect characterization.
A reference to a well known person, place, event, literary work, or art
Hinting at something that might occur later in the future
Foreshadowing
Literary technique that keeps a reader on edge and wanting to continue reading to see what happens
Suspense
Literary device where the actual definition of the words used is diffeent from the interpreted meaning
Irony
