Metaphor
When a word or phrase is applied to a object or action it doesn’t normally fit with.
Simile
A figure of speech involving the comparison of two things using ‘like’ or ‘as’.
Parallelism
Verbal constructions that parallel in grammatical structure, sound, meter, or meaning.
Repetition
Repeating something that has already been said or written.
Image
A simile or metaphor; representation of an external object or person.
Rhyme
Words with corresponding sounds or endings.
Meter
The rhythm of a piece of poetry.
Style
A way of composing literature.
Tone
The author’s attitude toward a subject.
Inversion
Reversing the normal order of words to create a certain emphasis or meter.
Analogy
A comparison of two things on the basis of their structure.
Aphorism
A pithy quote that conveys a general truth.
Satirize
The use of humor to criticize or expose humanity’s stupidity.
Allusion
Calling something to mind without directly mentioning it.
Rhetorical Question
A question asked to make a point, not to gain knowledge.
