Dramatic Irony
when the audience knows something that the characters don’t
Verbal Irony
when a speakers intention is opposite of whats happening, ex. a character stepping out into a hurricane and saying, “What nice weather we’re having
Situational Irony
when you expect something to happen and the opposite occurs, ex. two friends coming to the party in the same dress after promising not to wear that dress
Symbolism
object, action, or statement that has meaning beyond itself TO THE READER
Mood & Tone
feeling/atmosphere the author creates/wants you to feel
