Theme

Setting
Perspective from which a story is told. Can be 1st, 3rd limited, or 3rd omniscient
Point Of View
The sequence of events in a literary work
Plot
The use of clues to suggest events yet to come
Foreshadowing
The problem or complication in a story - can be internal or external
Conflict
Exaggerating or stretching the truth for literary effect
Hyperbol
A comparison of two unlike things using “like” or “as”
Simile
When something is different than it is supposed to be or thought to be
Irony
The action that takes place in a story after the climax that resolves the conflict
Falling Action
When the story is told from the perspective of someone outside of the events but who knows and reveals ALL the characters’ thoughts and feelings
3rd Person Omniscient
The person or thing that opposes the protagonist; sometimes called the villain
Antagonist
The end of the story- the conflict has been resolved
Resolution
