Exposition
The first part of plot
It introduces characters setting and conflict
Plot
A series of related events that make up a story
Rising Action
Second part of plot
Complications added the story develops and tension rises
Climax
The third part of plot highest point if tension, turning point of the story, outcome becomes clear
Falling Action
Fourth part of plot, details with the consequences of the climax
Resolution
Final part of plot, when the story is resolved, wrapped up, brought to a close
Setting
Time and place of a story
Suspense
The uncertainty or a anxiety the leader feels or character feels what is happening next in a story
Conflict
Struggle or clash between opposing characters or opposing forces
External conflict
Character struggles against an outside force
Internal Conflict
Takes place entirely within characters own mind

Foreshadowing
The use of clues to hint at events that will occur later in a plot
Theme
Central idea of a work of literature, authors universal message
Irony
Contrast between expectation and reality

The writers speaker says one thing but means something completely different
Dramatic Irony
When the audience or reader knows something important that a character dose not know
Point of View

Vantage point from which a writer tells a story
First Person Point of View
The narrator is actually a character in the story, uses pronouns

Protagonist
Main character in a fiction or drama, the character is driving the action

The character or force that blocks the protagonist
