Antagonist
The source of conflict for the main character
Protagonist
The main character of the story
Character
A person, animal or imaginary creature in literary work
Conflict
Refers to struggle between two opposing forces
Complication
Causes a plot to become tense or entangled as a result of the conflict
Dialogue
A conversation between characters
Dialect
A form of language spoken by people in a particular region or group
Flashback
Interrupts the sequence of events to relate to an event from an earlier time
Foreshadowing
Uses clues to suggest events that have yet to occur
Genre
The division or type of literature
Irony
Literary techniques that involves surprising, interesting or amusing contradictions
Persona
The voice through which an author tells a story
Plot
A sequence of events
Subplot
A less important series of events within the main plot
Point of view (P.O.V)
The perspective or vantage point from which the story is told
Setting
The place and time in which a literary work takes place
Style
A writers typical way of writing
Symbol
Anything that stands for or represents something abstract (like an idea)
Theme
Hey central idea, concerns or purpose
Tone
The writers attitude towards the readers, characters and the subject
Mood
Refers to the atmosphere or feeling conveyed by the work
