Setting
the time, culture and place in which a story takes place
Mood
the emotional atmosphere of the piece (how the reader feels/vibes of the piece);
Situational Irony
when the opposite of what’s expect occurs;
Imagery
description evolving the five senses;
Symbolism
the use of any person, situation, or object to represent an idea of some sort hinted at throughout the story
Conflict
a struggle between two or more forces (pvp and stuff);
Direct characterization
Author directly describing a character through adjectives
Indirect characterization
author indirectly revealing who a character is through their speech actions or effect on others (STEAL);
Suspense
the uneasy feeling of not knowing what will happen next or how it will happen;
Foreshadowing
details planted to hint at was is to come
Theme
the author’s message about humanity life or our universe based on the story especially as ending not a topic or motif;
Tone
the author or speakers attitude toward their subject matter;
Point of view
who tells the story first person third person second person;
Metaphor
comparison in which the speaker refers to something as something that is literally not unlike assembly
Dramatic irony
when the audience is aware of character and narrator is not;
