Irony
A situation in which there is a difference between what is expected and the reality
Genre
Categories of literature defined by certain traits
Allusion
A refrence to a different work or literature, art or culture
Flashback
When the plot transitions back to previous events
Foreshadowing
Clues/ hints the author gives to indicate what may happen in the future

The formula for basic plot/storylines
3rd person omniscient Point of View
The narrator is not a character in the story. However, the narrator knows what all characters think, feel, etc
3rd Person Limited Point Of View
The narrator is not a character in the story. The narrator knows what one character thinks, feels, sees, etc
1st Person Point Of View
The narrator is a character in the story. We only know what they know. (We are seeing it all exactly as they are.)
External Conflict
A problem that a character has with a force that is not himself
Internal Conflict
A problem that a character is wrestling with in his mind or conscience
Setting
The time, place, and cultural norms where the story occurs
Inference
An educated guess based on clue from the story
Plot
The series of events that happen in the story
Tone
The way the author feels about the topic or reader. For instance, judgemental, dimissive.
