Antagonist
The character or forces against the main character.
Climax
The highest point of interest in a story, close to the end.
Dialogue
Talking between characters.
Irony
Whenever a person says something or does something that departs from what they (or we) expect them to say or do.
Protagonist
The main character in a story.
Setting
The time and place of a story.
Theme
A recurring idea in a story, what it’s really about.
Alliteration
The same alphabet starting multiple words in order/line.
Connotation
The meaning of a word or a symbol, how it makes you feel.
Backstory
Information on what a character did or was like previously.
Onomatopoeia
When a word sounds like it’s read/spelled.
Personification
Giving something non-human a human characteristic.
Falling Action
A story’s falling action is the action that occurs immediately after the big climax has taken place and the action shifts towards resolution.
Metaphor
Comparison without using like or as.
Simile
Comparison using like or as.
