Simile
repetition of same sound at the start of a series of words, or same constants. usually uses at least 2
Alliteration
an exaggeration statement or claim that is not meant to be taken literally
Hyperbole
giving human qualities to non human like things, items or objects.
Personification
something that either stands for, represents or suggests something to represent and add meaning to it.
symbolism
referring to someone/something that is well known. Often used as a flashback by connecting to a person
Allusion
the use of words to express something other than or opposite to its literal meaning
Irony
is hinting the future events to come which adds suspense and prepares the reader for upcoming events
foreshadowing
where words add sounds that are associated with their meaning that can add sensory appeal to it.
onomatopoeia
a phrase made of two or more words that actually have opposite meaning
oxymoron
an appropriate expression used in the place of a phrase of words that may be found offensive
euphemism
descriptive language to paint a realistic picture in the readers’ mind. Appeals to the five senses
Imagery
when a part of something represents the whole part
Synecdouche
common phrase that means something different from it’s literal meaning
