A figure of speech which makes an implied comparison between two things that are unrelated but share some common characteristics.

The hinting of something that piques the interest of a reader

A character, object, or an event which stands for something else and has a deeper meaning than just its face value

An exaggerated point, its purpose is to make a strong expression.

Irony
The inconsistency between what it expected and what really happens in life or in a story
Dramatic irony
When the reader (or audience) knows the situation of narrative (what has happened is happening, or will happen; for instance)while the characters or main characters do not
Personification
When human qualities are given to animals or objects
Pathos
Quality that makes either the reader or a character feel pity or sadness
Juxtaposition
Two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effects. You can have juxtaposing characters, scenes, settings, ideas, etc.
Oxymoron
A figure of speech where two apparently contradictory or mutually exclusive words are used together
