Human Characteristics on something non human
What is Oxymoron?
Contradicting words with opposite meaning
What is Paradox?
a contradicting statement but when looked at deeper can be seen as true
What is Onomatopoeia?
formation of a word from a sound that is associated
What is Simile?
a simile is something that compares 2 things to eachother
What is Pun?
A Pun is a joke exploiting the meaning a word
What is Melancholy?
a feeling of intense and obvious sadness
What is Allusion?
an allusion is when you hint something without directly saying it
What is Apathetic?
showing no or very low interest in something
What is Metaphor?
a comparison between 2 things that are unrelated and is not to be taken literally
What is Alliteration?
2 words that sound similar too each other and start with the same letter eg “fish fry”
What is Idiom?
a group of words with a figurative not literal meaning eg its raining cats and dogs
What is Foreshadowing?
a warning or hint to an upcoming event
What is Anaphora?
the use of another word with similar meaning to avoid repetition
What is Villanelle?
2 words that rhyme in a sentence
What is Sonnet?
a 14 word poem with no independent rhyme scheme
What is Renaissance?
a revival or renewed interest
