dramatic (when we know more than the character.). situational (when the situation is ironic like a building falling onto a plane).

logical appeal - common sense and reasoning.
Pathos
- emotional appeal. (example like fluffy white kittens and toilet paper). (being a vegetarian can use a lot of emotional appeals)
Repetition
for effect (you repeat the same phase on expression)
Rhetorical questions
no answer to the question, just to make the person think
TONE
writer’s attitude towards their work. (sombre, happy, serious, shift).
Allusion
refers to history, the arts, literature. He’s a real Romeo. Life is a box of chocolates.
Hyperbole
dies of embarrassment. It weighs a ton (no it doesn’t)
Understatement
it’s only a scratch
Irony
Verbal irony - sarcasm.
PARADOX
it is a simple expression that seems contradictory that makes emotional sense. Once a man, twice a child. Cruel to be kind. Being charming and rude.
Oxymoron
Bittersweet. Loving-hate. Controlled chaos. (like song title)
Simile
“like” “as”. Life is like a voyage. (it creates an image)
Metaphor
life is a voyage
Personification
The car coughed and wheezed. The sun smiles. The leaves dance
