Know the definitions and give examples
Characterization
Flat: Uncomplicated, and can be defined with one word.
Round: They have many layers to their character and use multiple words to describe.
Static: They have no character development in the story and stay the same.
Dynamic: Characters goes through changes throughout the book.
Thesis
A statement put forth for discussion or proof
External world
The world consisting of all the objects and events which are experienceable or whose existence is accepted by the human mind
Internal World
The inner world contains the reactions, feelings, sensations, memories of the individual himself to things in the outer world.
Narrator
Omniscient Narrator: Has an all-knowing perspective on your story.
Limited Narrator: Narrator relates only their own thoughts, feelings, and knowledge about various situations and the other characters
POV
1st person: Story told from the perspective of the main character, uses pronouns like my, myself, I.
2nd person: Story told from the perspective of an unseen narrator with the reader as the main character, uses pronouns like you, your, yourself.
3rd person: Told from the perspective of an unseen narrator, uses pronouns like she, his, themself.
Topic vs. Theme
Topic: A word or phrase that sums up main subjects in the book.
Theme: The reason the story was written in the first place, a lesson the author wants to teach the readers.
Identify the topic from a new piece of literature.
Examples: Racism, Sexism, Equality, Trauma.
Write a paragraph in C-E-R structure
Claim: A statement summarizing what will be talked about in the paragraph.
Evidence: Statements backing up your claim.
Reasoning: Giving explanations for your evidence.
