Anaphora
repetition of the first part of a sentence, throughout segment of text or successive clauses to emphasise, eg. “I have a dream”
Allegory
story with a double meaning: One primary (On the surface) and one secondary
usually underlying moral or ethical consideration
Alliteration
repetition of letter or sound at beginning of two or more words in close succession to achieve specific effect.
Allusion
make reference to matters outside of text, eg people, event, mythology.
Add greater depth of description to text
Anticlimax
opposite of climax, leaving readers disappointed
assonance
internal rhyming of words through use of similar vowel sounds
Ballad
narrative style poem
Cliche
an overuse, common expression
colloquial language
everyday language
Anithesis
opposition, contrast. Balancing of one point of view against its opposite

poetic technique, when sentence or phrase runs over more than one line (or stanza). Assist in flow of a poem
Euphanism
mild expression used to replace a harsh one
Exclamation
to convey high emotions
Fractured/truncated sentences
imcomplete sentences used to increase tension or urgency, or reflect the way people speak to each other
