Internal Conflict
A struggle within the characterβs mind
External Conflict
A conflict between a character and/or an outside force
Foreshadowing
The author gives you a hints or clues about whatβs gonna happen next in the story
Theme
The underlining message, moral, or lesson of the story
Universal Theme
A central message that relates to any time period and any culture
Symbol
An object that represents something else
Imagery
Languages or words that appeal to the 5 - senses
Motive
The reason why a character does something
Characterization
The way an author creates a character
Indirect Charaterization
When and author is describing the character traits through actions, appearance or dialogue
Direct Characterization
When the author provides character traits right up in front (no guessing is needed)
Plot
The events that take place in the story
Tone
A particular attitude a character has

A feeling you get when you read a story
