Ad Hominem
This is an attack on the person rather than the issues at hand - a common fallacy, especially during an election year
Active voice
The opposite of passive voice, the active voice is essentially any sentence with an active verb.
Alliteration
Repetition of a phonetic sound at the beginning of several words in a sentence.
Allusion
Reference that recalls another work, another time in history, another famous person, and so forth.
Anadipolosis
Technique of repetition, last word of the clause begins the next clause.
Analogy
Signifies a relational comparison of or similarity between two objects or ideas.
Anaphora
Repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of several successive poetic lines
Anastrophe
Reverse of natural order of words in a sentence
Antithesis
Claim that is in opposition to your claim or an authors claim
Aphorism
Statement of an opinion or element of truth
Apostrophe
Direct address to someone who is not present, prayer like.
Appositive
Noun phrase, appositive modifies the noun next to it
Argument from ignorance
Argument stating the something is true because it has never been proven false
Asyndeton
Omission of conjunctions from a series of related independent clauses
Bandwagon
Argument is the “everyone is doing it” fallacy and is especially appreciated
