Reliability of a Narrator
The trustworthiness of a narrator, depending on details included or omitted by the author
Resolution
The ending of a story where the main problem is unfolded or solved. Technically called the ‘denouement.’
Rhyme
The repetition of the same or similar sounds occurs in two or more words, usually at the end of lines in poems.
Setting
The time and place in which the story takes place. The definition of setting can also include social status, weather, historical period, and details about immediate surroundings.
Shift
A change that occurs quickly within a text, often signalled by a transitional word.
simile
a direct comparison of two things
Situational Irony
a situation in which actions have an effect that is opposite from what was intended. The outcome is contrary to what was expected.
Speaker
In poetry, the speakers voice is behind the poem
Stanza
A group of set lines within a poem
Story or Narrative
The account of events, experiences and narratives.
Stream of Consciousness
A method of narration that describes happening in the flow of thoughts in the minds.
