What is a Soliloquy?
In dramatic works a soliloquy consists of lines in which the characters reveals his thoughts to the audience but not to other characters. (The character speaks to themselves)
Describe the style / character of soliloquy
It is “fantasy-like’. It has the absence of bar lines and the opening says to play the piece as con rubato. This suggests the performer has some freedom in the interpretation, making this piece a personal expression
How does Liebermann develop the theme?
Liebermann opens with the main motive at the start of the piece. The rest of the piece is based off this motif melodically, harmonically and rhythmically. It also goes to a tritone which is used quite often in this piece.
