The idea that people are ranked in a hierarchy such that some people and groups have more power and status than others.
Social Stratification
Unequal treatment of women that’s easily identifiable and, therefore, easily documented.
Overt Sexism
Brief, everyday acts of sexism, whether intentional or unintentional, that demean and insult a person based on that individuals gender.
Microaggressions
A term that describes the ways in which contemporary sexism includes two related but complementary components: hostility and benevolence.
Ambivalent Sexism
This type of sexism suggests that girls and women should be treated differently than men because they are special and worthy of being cherished and in need of protection.
Benevolent Sexism
Discontent that arises from the discrepancy between perceived expectations and present actualities. Comparing your status relative to people around you that you would compare yourself to. This is a precursor to depression.
Relative Deprivation
