LIR Flashcards
Where does the Light independent reaction happen?
In the stroma inside chloroplasts.
What is the enzyme that catalyses the first step of the Calvin cycle called?
Rubisco
What joins to CO2 to become the 3 carbon molecule called Glycerate-3-phosphate?
Ribulose Bisphosphate
How many ATP and reduced NADP are needed to produce Triose phosphate from glycerate 3-phosphate?
2 ATP and 2NADPH
What happens to reduced NADP when it donates its Hydrogen?
It becomes oxidised
How is ribulose bisphosphate (5C) regenerated?
From Triose phosphate using 1 ATP
How many molecules of Triose phosphate (3C) are regenerated to ribulose bisphosphate (5C)?
5 out of every 6 molecules are regenerated to RuBP
How are hexose sugars formed?
Made from 2 Triose phosphate joined together, this needs 6 turns of the Calvin cycle
What is carboxylation?
The addition of CO2
What would happen to the LIR in the absence of the LDR?
It would stop as glycerate-3-phosphate would not be turned into triose phosphate, as reduced NADP and ATP from the LDR are needed for this to occur
. Where does the carbon dioxide come from for the Calvin cycle?
It diffuses into the leaf from the atmosphere OR aquatic environment through the stomata.
