Q

What are Lipids? Properties? Types? Functions?

A
  • C H and O (less O than carbs)
  • Non polar and hydrophobic (insoluble in water)
  • Triglycerides (main component for fats and oils) and phospholipids
  • They play a role in energy storage, insulation, hormonal communication and energy yield

Q

What are phospholipids?

A
  • 2 fatty acids and 1 phosphate group bonded to 1 glycerol molecule
  • Polar due to phosphate group
  • Amphipathic (hydrophilic and hydrophobic)
