Lines Flashcards
Guard: Okay jurors. Everybody’s here. If there’s anything you want I’m right outside. Just knock.
Me: I never knew they locked the door
10: sure they locked the door, what did you think
Me: I don’t know it just never occurred to me
Foreman: I mean one persons in the bathroom…
Me: are we going to sit in order
7: hey you a yanks fan?
Me: no Baltimore
Foreman: okay you got two minutes
Me: I’ll pass it.
10: I don’t want any part of them, I’m telling you.
Me: I’ve lived in a slum all my life.
10: oh now wait a second
Me: I used to play in a back yard that was filled with garbage, maybe it still smells on me.
Foreman: there’s nothing personal
Me: there is something personal!
3: what are we gonna get out of seeing the knife again
Me: you brought it up
8: do you think he lied
Me: well… I don’t know…
3: why don’t you put a quarter in his collection box
Me: now wait a minute! Who do you think you are to talk like that…who do you think you are…
4: all right let’s calm down
Me: who does he think he is? I mean did you see him?
3: lend me you pencil
Me: you know I don’t think he would’ve shown the knife to his friends at that time…
3: we might as well pass the time.
Me: well I don’t know if it makes a difference or not. Listen, this boy…
8: what do you think?
Me: I don’t know. Ten or twelve second maybe
8: we’ll I think that testimony which could put a human being in an electric chair should be accurate.
Me: I don’t think he could’ve heard it
3: what are you people talking about?
Me: well it stands to reason
3: the kid said he was going to kill him and he did kill him.
Me: well let me ask you this do you really think the boy would shout out a thing like that so the whole neighborhood could hear? I don’t think so he’s much too bright for that.
10: he don’t even speak good English.
Me: I’d like to change my vote to not guilty
7: now you got to be kidding me
Me: you heard
Foreman: are you sure
Me: yes I’m sure
7: how come you’ve got so much to say?
Me: the lawyer was court appointed.
7: so what does that mean?
Me: well it could mean a lot of things. It could mean he didn’t want the case. It could mean he resented being appointed it’s the kind of case that brings him nothing. No money. No glory. Not even much of a chance of winning. It’s not a very promising situation for a young lawyer. He’d have to really believe in his client to put up a fight. As you pointed out a minute ago, he obviously didn’t.
10: witnesses are being doubted and there’s no reason for it.
Me: witnesses can make mistakes.
10: I mean all of a sudden here everybody…
Me: I’d like to call for another vote
7: I mean; what’s the point
of the whole.:.?
