Linear Functions Flashcards
Linear equation
Graph forms a straight line.
Direct variation
A linear function defined by an equation of the form y=mx
Parallel lines
Two lines are parallel If they lie in the Sam plane and do not intersect.
Perpendicular lines
Lines that intersect and form right angles.
Point-slope form
Y- y1 = m(x-x1)
The line passes through the point (x1y1) with slope m.
Rate of change
The relationship between two quantities that are changing. The rate of the change is also called slope.
Slope
The ratio of the vertical change to the horizontal change.
Slope-intercept form
Y= mx + b , where m is the slope of the line and b is the y-intercept.
Standard form
Ax+By=C
A,b,c are real numbers and A and B are not both zero.
X-intercept
Point where a graph crosses the y-axis
Y-Intercept
A point where a graph crosses the y-axis.
