Linear Functions Flashcards
linear equation
An equation whose graph forms a straight line.
direct variation
A linear function defined by an equation of the form y=kx, where k doesn’t =0
parallel lines
Two lines are parallel if they lie in the same plane and do not intersect.
perpendicular lines
Perpendicular lines are lines that intersect and form right angles.
point-slope form
A linear equation of a non vertical line.
rate of change
The relationship between two quantities that are changing.
slope
The ratio of the vertical change to the horizontal change.
slope intercept form
The slope-intercept form of a linear equation is y=mx+b.
standard form
The standard form of a linear equation is Ax+By=C.
x-intercept
The x-coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the x-axis.
y-intercept
The y-coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the y-axis.
